What is Open Book Society

A book club that takes action. The Open Book Society is a circle of advocates and changemakers who believe that every person, at every stage, deserves the chance to continue their learning, turn a page in their lives, and reach new chapters with purpose.

Open Book Society Vision

The Open Book Society. At the Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida, we believe literacy is a gateway, not just to improved reading but to deeper connection, greater confidence, and lasting progress. It leads to independence, empowerment, and the ability to fully participate with purpose and possibility.

To be an open book is to move through the world with clarity and self-assurance, to comprehend and be heard. Through your support, students become lifelong learners, gaining the tools they need to read, advance, and access the possibilities they have always deserved. You will support their goals and watch their opportunities take flight.

Who are the Open Book Society Members?

The Literacy Alliance Open Book Society membership includes local individuals interested in the continuing education, economic success, and quality of life of local citizens. Open Book Society Members act on their interest in adult literacy and adult education by supporting the Literacy Alliance mission with financial contributions, advocacy and participation in Society events.

What do Open Book Society Members do?

Through the Open Book Society, Members participate in regularly scheduled small group gatherings and discussion with local civic leaders, policy experts, and simply interesting people. Presentations and discussions embrace the idea that we can all increase our literacy in lots of areas with presentations on a wide range of topics, but also always find the common connection to adult literacy and education.

The Society will meet three to four times a year (i.e., the last Tuesday of . . . Jan, April, September, etc.). Each meeting will feature a moderated discussion with the evening’s featured guest. Each guest is charged with sharing their story, discussing a topic of their interest, and connecting that topic (whatever it is) with adult literacy and adult education.
