The Open Book Society is a circle of advocates and changemakers who believe that every person, at every stage, deserves the chance to turn the page and reach new chapters with purpose.

Who We Are

The Open Book Society is made up of local individuals interested in the continuing education, economic success, and quality of life of local citizens. Open Book Society Members act on their interest by supporting the Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida’s mission with financial contributions and advocacy.

Through the Open Book Society, Members participate in regularly scheduled Meetings featuring local civic leaders or policy experts. Presentations and discussions embrace the idea that we can all increase our literacy in many areas with speakers presenting on a wide range of topics, but also always find the common connection to adult literacy and education.

Our Vision

Open Book Society Members believe literacy is a gateway, not just to improved reading but to deeper connection, greater confidence, and lasting progress. It leads to independence, empowerment, and the ability to fully participate with purpose and possibility. To be an open book is to move through the world with clarity and self-assurance, to comprehend and be heard. Through your support, students become lifelong learners, gaining the tools they need to read, advance, and access the possibilities they have always deserved. You will support their goals and watch their opportunities take flight.

Membership

When you join the Open Book Society, you make a direct impact on adult learners in our community through your support of The Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida. Plus, you also receive access to our exclusive speaker series. Each Speaker Series event has a “book club” format where Members can join local civic leaders in a discussion of a wide range of topics while also finding connections of those topics to adult literacy and adult education.
